Looking for new goats to add to a herd, want to start a herd or have quality breeding stock for sale?
On Saturday, Sept. 15, the Southern Virginia Meat Goat Association will host a breeding stock sale and goat field day event at the Halifax County Agricultural Marketing Center.
The field day will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the breeding stock sale will run the length of the field day.
This is an opportunity to add to a stock or to start a herd.
Space is limited and participants must call ahead and reserve pen space. The cost to sell will be free for SVMGA members and $5 per head for non-SVMGA members.
All animals must have scrapie tags and be in good health. SVMGA reserves the right to refuse animals and SVMGA is not responsible for any animals sold. All sales will be private treaty.
Anyone interested in selling breeding stock at the sale, should contact Leah Brown at 434-476-3066 to get pre-registered.
The Ag Marketing Center is located at 1001 Farmway Lane Scottsburg, VA 24589.
Those new to the goat business and who want to learn more about how to raise a herd can join SVMGA for their Goats Galore Field Day, just steps away from the breeding stock sale.
The field day will feature a goat producer panel to get answers to goat questions, a herd dog demo, special guest speakers Dr. Kevin D. Pelzer and Dr. Jeanette Moore and more.
Enjoy goat chili samples, cheese samples, vendors and concessions.
This event is free and open to the public.
Anyone who pre-registers automatically goes into the drawing for door prizes.
