Southern Virginia Higher Education Center welcomes intern

Jeremy Carden is serving as a summer intern at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center.

Carden, a native of Halifax County, lives in the Clover community and is a May 2012 graduate of Liberty University in Lynchburg. He attained a Bachelor of Science degree in communications with a concentration in marketing and public relations, an Associate of Arts degree in religion and minored in Biblical studies.

Carden joined the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center team on May 29 as a communications and workforce services assistant.

“I like to think creatively to figure out solutions to problems,” Carden said.

He plans to return to Liberty University in the fall to take a few more courses in business and religion. His long-term goal is to develop a career as a professional writer.

Carden reports to the Director of Workforce Services@SVHEC Nettie Simon-Owens.

“We are happy to have Jeremy as an intern,” said Simon-Owens. “In the short time that he has been with us, he has demonstrated a lot of professional potential, learns quickly, and readily assists others upon request. He gets things done quickly and well. It is rewarding having Jeremy as part of our organization and for him to be able to have a local work experience that is directly related to his degree.”

Carden is located in the Innovation Center on the campus of the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center and can be contacted at 434-572-5488 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
