The Man Who Saved Christmas:’ Love is in the Air

Think of all the things that make a musical great:  giant dance numbers, memorable songs, positive social values and of course a bit of romance. Halifax County Little Theatre’s latest production has them all, especially the romance. The play is a Virginia premiere of “The Man Who Saved Christmas” by Ron Lytle.

Little Theatre’s ‘The Man Who Saved Christmas’ opens Nov. 15

“Let’s go, people!  We’ve only 60 days till Christmas, so let’s get a move on!”  The opening lines of Ron Lytle’s ‘new old-fashioned’ holiday musical sound as if they are talking about those of us in the present time, but the time of this show is 1919, when America was involved in World War I.

For the past 30 years, members of Triangle Volunteer Fire Department have been scaring the bejesus out of the community in an effort to raise much-needed funds for their year-round firefighting efforts.

Once again the Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department Corp. is ready to open the doors to the 2013 season at the House of Horror with people coming from as far away as Richmond, Raleigh and Virginia Beach. 

Halifax County High School secures sixth straight one-act play district title

The Halifax County High School one-act play competition team secured its sixth straight district title and its first in the newly formed Piedmont District at Magna Vista High School on Saturday.

‘Night of the Living Dead’ 
remake set for Halloween showing

The wait to see local director Lewis Guthrie’s remake of the classic horror film, “Night of the Living Dead,” is over. A public showing of the film has been set for Thursday, Oct. 31, at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center-Innovation Center located in downtown South Boston.
