'Tom Sawyer:' Independently seamless on stage

As the old adage goes, ‘it takes a village’ to do most anything – including putting on a show. This is especially true when that show is a musical. There are parts and pieces that must work independently yet seamlessly together.

“Ain’t Life Good;” the grammar might be a little off, but the sentiment is perfect. That is also the concept of Halifax County Little Theatre’s fall musical, “Tom Sawyer,” based on the Mark Twain classic and written by Ken Ludwig and Don Schlitz, two of Broadway’s best known writers.

Music is not something everyone can do. It’s not even something that everyone thinks is important. But for some folks, especially the cast and crew of Halifax County Little Theatre’s season opening musical “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” music is vital to the experience.

Destination Gallery in downtown South Boston features the artistry of local craftsmen. Some examples are a porcelain vase by Mat Stafford, vintage jewelry by Linda Lumsden, Moth platter by Cathy Kiffney and slab-built desk accessories by Linda Prager.
The gallery showcases the work of 47 regional and international artists at special beginning Thursday.
