Leading the way in ‘Tom Sawyer’

“Ain’t Life Good;” the grammar might be a little off, but the sentiment is perfect. That is also the concept of Halifax County Little Theatre’s fall musical, “Tom Sawyer,” based on the Mark Twain classic and written by Ken Ludwig and Don Schlitz, two of Broadway’s best known writers.

Tom Sawyer opens Friday

Music is not something everyone can do. It’s not even something that everyone thinks is important. But for some folks, especially the cast and crew of Halifax County Little Theatre’s season opening musical “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” music is vital to the experience.

Creativity abounds in downtown

Destination Gallery in downtown South Boston features the artistry of local craftsmen. Some examples are a porcelain vase by Mat Stafford, vintage jewelry by Linda Lumsden, Moth platter by Cathy Kiffney and slab-built desk accessories by Linda Prager.

The gallery showcases the work of 47 regional and international artists at special beginning Thursday.

Song, dance blend into one in ‘Tom Sawyer’

When a great song begins on the radio — no matter where you are — sometimes you’ve just got to move.  It might start slow at first, but eventually you’ll be tapping your toes, snapping your fingers or drumming on the steering wheel.

Humor, strong values part of new ‘Snow White’ production

Most grownups when they recall their earliest childhood memories have a few stories that bring good feelings and experiences. For many those are fairy tales featuring a beautiful princess and her handsome prince.

Seniors work on their final school production

Everyone remembers his favorite childhood stories, the ones he wanted to have retold as often as a parent would read them. At the top of many memory lists has to be “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”
