Ragtag gang of misfits breathe life into 'Pirates'

A plethora of images come to mind when asked about pirates.  Whether you tend to lean towards Captain Hook or you’re more a Jack Sparrow thinker, there’s something distinctive about what each individual’s pirate persona might resemble.

• Halifax County High School, South Boston … Blessed Hope Halifax and the “Soldiers of the Cross” present Brian Free & Assurance live in concert April 19. Doors open at 6 p.m., concert starts at 7 p.m.  Admission is free, the sponsors just ask that everyone who has the means to bring two canned food items or a non-perishable item to jump start a new food ministry in the Town of Halifax.

Pirates head for hospital to perform

Ahoy there. The Pirates are coming to Halifax Regional Hospital. Want a sneak preview?  If so, join Halifax Regional’s Healing Arts Team for its “Third Thursday in the Lobby” on Thursday, April 18, at 3 p.m. to meet the cast of Halifax County Little Theatre’s soon to open production of “How I Became a Pirate.”

Band gives new face to old music

With their classic attire, close soaring harmonies and over-the-top energy, Blue Grass Five is putting a new face on old time bluegrass, country and gospel music.  Recreating, refining and retro-fitting the genre-defining string music of the century, their spice comes from their infectious enthusiasm, spontaneous humor, high-lonesome harmonies, fiery picking and great songs.

Young duo shares lead in ‘Pirate’

In a move somewhat unusual in community theatre, Halifax County Little Theatre’s upcoming production of “How I Became a Pirate” will feature two actors in the lead role.  Jake Carr and Easton Berry have been pegged to bring the lead role of Jeremy Jacob to life, with Berry being the understudy.
