Heritage Festival features mud

Rev up the engine, check out the tires and get ready to sling a little mud.  In cooperation with Sign Rock Mud Bog of Vernon Hill, the Halifax County Heritage and Antique Machinery Festival will present two big Mud Bog events the first weekend in May at the Halifax County Fairgrounds.

A 10-class hill and hole competition is set for Friday evening, May 3, at 7 p.m. Registration begins at 5.  The second big event is a four wheeler bog scheduled for Sunday afternoon, May 4, at 2 p.m.  

Friday evening’s Hill and Hole event includes 10 different classes of vehicles -- Street Class up to 36” tires, 4 & 6 Class up to 36” tires, Super Stock up to 33” tires, Super Stock up to 36” tires, Super Modified up to 38.5” tires, Big Tire Street Class, 4 & 6 Class up to DOT approved 54” tires, Super Stock up to DOT approved 54” tires, Super Modified up to DOT approved 54” tires, and XX Class.  

Entry fees range from $25 to $40 depending on the class and size of tires.  Trophies will be awarded in all classes with 100 percent payout in all classes.  

The four wheeler event, for kids and kids-at-heart,  is designed for 500 CC four wheelers and down as well as 500 CC’s and up, and is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5.  Registration begins at 1 p.m. An entry fee of $10 to $15 is required depending on the size of the vehicle.  Trophies and cash will be awarded.

The 10th Annual Halifax County Heritage and Antique Machinery Festival will be held at the Halifax County Fairgrounds the first weekend in May.  Festival times are Friday, May 3, from noon until 9 p.m.; Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, May 5, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.  

Admission is $5 for adults and children 12 and older.  Children under 12 are admitted free of charge.
