Romance, frustration and angst in ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’

Opening night for Halifax County Little Theatre’s season opener “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” is swiftly approaching, and the actors, singers and dancers are feeling the pressure of final preparations.

With opening night looming, and tech rehearsals starting next week, the actors not only have to know their lines and music and choreography, they also must know which props they will be using, what their costumes will be, which sound and light cues to go by, how not to run into set pieces in the dark and what they will look like in full stage makeup.

The story follows Tom and his friends in all their adventures and includes uplifting, humorous and even touching musical numbers along the way.

The show opens on Friday, Nov. 16, at The Prizery and officially opens Halifax County Little Theatre’s 2012-2013 theatrical season. Season tickets are still available, providing a package of all Halifax County Little Theatre main stage productions while saving patrons some cash.

Ticketing information, including season tickets, can be found at or at The Prizery box office at 572-8339.

Tom, his friends and their adventures and their songs are an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the process of growing up that never really changes and share it with the whole family.
