Ms. D Productions presents Grace Kelly Jazz Quartet at The Prizery this Friday, Sept. 21, at 7:30 p.m.
Twenty years old with seven CDs in release, Kelly has performed in more than 500 concerts worldwide. Voted “Best Jazz Act” for four consecutive years, “Alto Saxophone Rising Star,” and “Best National Jazz Act” for 2012, Kelly has performed and recorded with many of the who’s who in jazz including Dave Brubeck, Wynton Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr., Phil Woods, Toots Thielemans, Kenny Barron and Dianne Reeves.
Marsalis said, “Grace Kelly plays with intelligence, wit and feeling…the hallmark of a first-class jazz musician.”
Prior to the concert on Friday evening, the Grace Kelly Jazz Quartet will present a free master class to students at the Halifax County High School. Producer Donnell Corelle said, “I saw Grace Kelly earlier this year as headliner of the Atlanta Jazz Festival. Compared to a young Miles Davis, she is well on her way to becoming one of the jazz greats of her time.” Continuing, she said, “I am pleased she is able to offer the master class to the local students. I had a similar opportunity when I was a student. That experience remains with me after all these years.”
Students are invited to Common Grounds following the Master Class for a CD signing.
Tickets are $24/adult and $10/student and available at Common Grounds (4018 Halifax Rd.) and 3 Women & No Truck (217-B Main St.) in South Boston, online at www.sobocommongrounds.com and at the door beginning at 6 p.m. that evening.
