Halifax County Little Theatre is gearing up for their 2012-13 season, its 57th active year in this community.
The recently announced season will begin with a fundraiser in September and the first main stage show in November — “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.”
Auditions were held at The Prizery last Tuesday and will Monday at 7 p.m. for the production of the musical version of the classic American tale.
No previous theater experience is required for anyone who wants to get involved either onstage or backstage, and anyone aged 10 and up is encouraged to come out for this show.
Those who wish to audition for a part should come prepared to sing a song of their choice
Director and HCLT board member Andy Rice said, “For this show, we especially need adult men and women. And don’t be shy about the singing because many of the adult roles include spoken dialog and ensemble singing.”
The music in Tom Sawyer complements the storyline, with mainly folk and bluegrass influences. In addition to actors and backstage volunteers, HCLT also offers opportunities for musicians with this show.
“We are also looking for musicians for ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’,” said Rice. “Guitar, mandolin and banjo, which can all be covered by one person or two or three people, are definitely needed. We are also looking for musicians to play bass (upright if at all possible), drums and fiddle.”
Auditions will be held Monday evening, Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. at The Prizery. Anyone wishing to audition for a part, volunteer backstage or play music for the show should come on out.
“Come break a leg with us.” said Rice. “The music will have everyone tapping their toes and singing along, and I guarantee you will have a great time.”
