Halifax County High School graduate Miya Wright of South Boston placed first in the high school graduate category earning a $1,000 scholarship to The Art Institute of New York City.
Wright participated in the local level of The Art Institutes and Americans for the Arts “You Can Create Tomorrow” poster design competition. As the first place winner in the high school graduate category, Wright was entered into the national stage of the competition and competed with other local first place winners to earn up to a $10,000 tuition scholarship to an Art Institutes school.
According to a press release released by the Art Institute, the competition was open to graduating high school seniors and high school graduates interested in pursuing a creative education. Students submitted an original poster design, a current high school transcript and a designer statement.
In May, a panel of industry professionals selected by The Art of Institutes schools assesses each locals winner’s poster design based on the specified criteria by visiting the posters and designers’ statements on The Art Institutes website.
