“Velda: Girl Detective” is Artist and writer Ron Miller’s original creation, with several comic books, radio shows and even some short films under her stylish 50's belt.
The noirish character is a showgirl turned private investigator, following closely along her late police officer father's footsteps. Although Velda changed careers out of necessity, she is discovering that she is actually a good private eye. The show is a world premier, right here in Halifax County.
Velda has never been on stage before, and Constitution Square will host her debut.
On Friday and Saturday evening, the gates will open at 5 p.m., allowing audiences plenty of time to claim a good spot in the grass, socialize and have some refreshment before Velda appears on stage at 8:30.
Bring a chair or blanket and a sense of humor as the characters in Velda's world appear in all their comical, if not sketchy and suspicious, glory.
Admission is free, and adult refreshment will be sold in the Square. The show is not recommended for very young children, and will go on rain or shine. Velda's show is the latest in HCLT's biennial tradition of offering the community a free show in Constitution Square and will close the 2011-2012 season.
