Country rap artist coming to fair

Country rap artist Colt Ford will take the stage at the  Halifax County Fair grandstands on Friday, Oct. 3, at 8 p.m., according to Halifax County Fair Manager Todd Moser. 

Colt Ford, whose birth name is Jason Farris Brown, grew up in Athens, Georgia attending Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton’s concerts while also listening to R&B and hip-hop. 

When he reached adulthood, he began writing songs, eventually earning co-writing credits with Jamey Johnson, Jeremy Popoff and the alternative rock band Lit. 

In 2008, Colt Ford launched an Atlanta and Nashville-based record label, Average Joes Entertainment, and the same year he released his debut album “Ride Through the Country.” 

Since then he has released three more albums, “Chicken & Biscuits,” “Every Chance I Get” and “Declaration of Independence.” 

Advance tickets are on sale now through Extreme Tickets at a cost of $25 for bleacher seats and $30 for pit tickets.

Tickets also will be on sale the day of the event. Bleacher seats will cost $30, and pit tickets will cost $35. 

The ticket cost will cover admission into the fair and the grandstand show.

The line-up for Saturday’s entertainment includes: 

HiGrass performing at noon;

 Ted Jones and the Tarheel Boys at 2 p.m.;

 Lawson Creek at 4 p.m.; and

 Mountain Heart at 8 p.m. 

The 4-H Talent Show will be the featured grandstand entertainment Tuesday night.

Entertainment for Wednesday and Thursday nights is still under discussion, according to Moser.
